Newspaper depot: Safer

The key improvement
The company completely redesigned their forecourt area after the accident. One key feature is the introduction of many more floodlights. Improved maintenance of the lighting also ensures that visibility in the loading area is always high.
Other improvements
Barriers separate the delivery trucks and vans while pedestrian walkways improve segregation. Loads now leave the building from a separate exit, which is accessible via a new one-way loop arrangement. Signage has been added to make drivers aware of the new road layout.
The benefits
While truck and van drivers are not completely separated from vehicle movement, the improved lighting should reduce the risk of accidents. The movement of traffic is much more tightly controlled, and the functions of the two areas of the forecourt better defined.
