Consultations are organised to get feedback from all interested parties and to gather a wide range of scientific information for the regulatory process.

Surveys

HSE recognises the importance of understanding how biocides are used in different industries. For information gathering purposes we may conduct surveys to get feedback and information from interested parties.

The following surveys are currently open:

• Survey on the use of chemicals when handling the deceased, body parts and tissue samples

HSE is the regulatory authority for biocidal products under the GB BPR. Product type 22 of the GB BPR covers “Embalming and taxidermist fluids - Products used for the disinfection and preservation of human or animal corpses, or parts thereof".

Understanding how biocides are used in different areas of society assists HSE to make timely decisions and set priorities. Following feedback from the sector, HSE would like to find out more information from professionals and businesses working in the embalming sector and other similar practices such as preserving tissues samples for research and teaching purposes.

In particular, we would like feedback on the types of chemicals and products that are most widely used and their availability. The insight provided by the survey will allow HSE to continue to develop policies which consider the industries that they relate to.
