Reporting the trial
1. You may release to the media, for the purposes of reporting proceedings, certain limited information gathered for the prosecution. Material which is illustrative, such as photographs, can be released, but further disclosure should not be made without seeking legal advice. Written presentation notes should not be released.
2. Any interviews should be conducted outside the precincts of the court.
3. After the case you should not criticise the verdict, for example, by suggesting that the acquitted person is guilty or that a penalty imposed is inadequate.
4. If there are difficulties after a case (such as where HSE decisions are criticised or where there is great media interest), it is preferable for the Press Office to deal with publicity, rather than individual inspectors.
