RR591 - Correlation between vibration emission and vibration during real use - Fastener driving tools

The work described here had five aims:

  • to assess the standard test defined in ISO 8662-11:1999 for usability and reproducibility;
  • to investigate some of the factors that influence the vibration magnitude measured under standard test conditions;
  • to compare vibration emission values with vibration magnitudes measured under real operating conditions;
  • to investigate alternative parameters for assessing the vibration from single shock tools as defined in ISO/TS 15694 and to consider the relative merits of these parameters compared with the frequency-weighted rms acceleration; and
  • to provide HSE with information regarding points 3 and 4 above, so that it can better inform users and suppliers of machines of the worth of vibration emission data in terms of vibration exposure and risk assessment.

This report and the work it describes were funded by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). Its contents, including opinions and/or conclusions expressed, are those of the authors alone and do not necessarily reflect HSE policy.
