Step 7: Approval decision
Within 6 months of the conclusion date, relevant GB competent authorities will decide to either approve or refuse to approve the active substance.
HSE seeks prior approval from GB ministers to carry out the decision-making function as delegated to HSE (which acts as the competent authority).
Approval may be subject to conditions or restriction referred to in Art 6(1) of the retained Regulation.
A proposal for an approval decision may be subject to consultation through the World Trade Organisation (WTO) by Defra depending on the assessment of the potential impact on trade. The consultation includes a minimum 60-day commenting period.

The Secretary of State may decide instead of a competent authority.
The approval decision will be detailed within a published decision note.
After the decision, HSE will notify you and update the GB approvals register.
