This leaflet is for dutyholders responsible for sites storing dangerous substances as defined by the NAMOS Regulations. It explains changes to a legal requirement to notify the fire and rescue service about any site storing 150 tonnes or more of ammonium nitrate (AN) and mixtures containing AN where the nitrogen content exceeds certain levels.
It accompanies the guide to the Regulations Notification and marking of sites. The Dangerous Substances (Notification and Marking of Sites) Regulations 1990 HSR29.
On the 6 April 2013, regulatory amendments will reduce the duplication of different notification regimes for dangerous substances, as a consequence of the revocation of the Notification of Installations Handling Hazardous Substances Regulations 1982 and the 2002 amendment Regulations (NIHHS).
