This book provides practical guidance on compliance with the Dangerous Substances (Notification and Marking of Sites) Regulations 1990 (NAMOS).

These Regulations require the notification to the local fire authority and the enforcing authority under the Health and Safety at Work etc Act for any site which houses a total quantity of 25 tonnes or more of dangerous substances as well as giving guidance as to the displaying of signs warning of the presence or possible presence of such substances.

On the 6 April 2013, regulatory amendments will reduce the duplication of different notification regimes for dangerous substances, as a consequence of the revocation of the Notification of Installations Handling Hazardous Substances Regulations 1982 and the 2002 amendment Regulations (NIHHS). Please see the leaflet INDG467 Notification and marking of sites. A brief guide to an amendment to the Regulations for details.
