Legislation

A considerable amount of general health and safety at work legislation covers those people in Britain who work in the quarrying industry. But because of the particular risks that can arise in quarries there are also specific quarries regulations which complement the general legislation.
The Quarries Regulations 1999 (SI 1999 2024, ISBN 0 11 082955 7) came into force on 1 January 2000. They are available from The Stationery Office.
The Approved Code of Practice (ACoP) "Health and Safety at Quarries" (L118, ISBN 0 7176 2458 7) can be obtained from HSE Books.
Changes, detailed here, have been made to the Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations 1995 (RIDDOR).
This is as a consequence of the Quarries Regulations 1999, which replaced various legislation including the Quarries (Explosives) Regulations 1988.
