In March 2010 HSE, in conjunction with Local Government Employers (LGE), the Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) and the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (CoSLA), invited representatives from local authorities in England, Scotland and Wales to a small workshop to discuss the local government response to HSE's strategy for the health and safety of Great Britain. Elected members, senior managers, including some Chief Executives, and health and safety managers from across Britain took the opportunity to explore how those within local government can 'be part of the solution'. They were encouraged to identify their main risk priorities for local authorities and suggest options for strengthening engagement and leadership on health and safety across local government. Their comments and suggestions, along with an update on action following the event, are included in the report on the workshop 10 March 2010.
