Police Investigations and Review Commissioner

The Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC)[1] is responsible for conducting independent investigations into the most serious incidents involving the police in Scotland.

A protocol between HSE and PIRC (PDF) [2] has been agreed, which addresses the working arrangements between the two organisations in the event of a serious injury to, or death of, a police officer at work or a member of the public following contact with the police, including when in police custody
