The Rubber Industry Advisory Committee is a tripartite partnership between Trade Unions, Industry and HSE. It represents the following sectors of industry:
- the manufacture of general rubber goods
- the manufacture of new tyres
- tyre retreading
- importing tyres
- wholesale distribution and retailing of tyres
- tyre recovery
Each year 3 meetings are held involving nominated representatives from each of the partner organisations. The role of the RUBIAC is to help formulate and monitor health and safety strategy development for the industry whilst responding to emerging health and safety industry issues.
The trade associations actively involved on RUBIAC are the British Tyre Manufacturers Association (BTMA), the British Rubber and Polyurethane Products Association (BRPPA), the Retread Manufacturers Association (RMA), the National Tyre Distributors Association (NTDA), the Imported Tyre Manufacturers Association (ITMA) and the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA).
These key stakeholders in the industry work in partnership with HSE to deliver improvements in health and safety performance. This has been done through a series of action plans developed in response to an industry wide strategy being developed - the most recent being The RUBIAC Health & Safety Strategy 2006-09 "Rubbing Out Risks" (PDF) [1] launched in April 2006. This strategy has now come to an end and industry in partnership with HSE, TA's and Unions are now discussing potential future work programmes. Once these have been established more information will appear on these pages.
