RR218 - Peer review of analysis of specialist group reports on causes of construction accidents
The Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 1994 have introduced new duties for designers. Early intervention by designers and clients can have a significant impact on construction safety during building, maintenance and demolition. The industry has found the cultural changes necessary for proper designer integration difficult and various projects have been initiated by the Health and Safety Executive to remedy this. It was believed that an analysis of a series of randomly selected incidents might give evidence that designers can do more to improve safety and health in construction. The findings very thoroughly underline the fact that the thinking behind the Regulations is sound and that designers can and should do more.
