RR214 - YO-YO diving and the risk of decompression illness

Yo-yo diving is defined as a series of dives which have short periods of time spent at depth alternating with similar periods of time on the surface. In general the total duration of the series is within the time constraints for a single dive to the same depth for the maximum time allowed without incurring decompression stops. The main conclusion is that for the depths at which yo-yo diving normally applies the decompression bubble formation is less when the total time is broken into a series of short dives than when the allowed maximum time is taken up by a single dive.
