Information on evaluation activity in 2024 (Article 54 reporting)

Substance evaluation

No new substance evaluations were initiated in 2024.

HSE completed the evaluation of N-butylbenzenesulphonamide that was initiated in 2023. The evaluation concluded that the substance is very persistent (vP) in the environment. In addition, available screening laboratory data for the organic-water partitioning coefficient indicates the likelihood of widespread distribution in the environment. The available data also suggest that N-butylbenzenesulphonamide could meet the GB CLP classification criteria for classification for adverse effects on sexual function and fertility. A mandatory classification and labelling proposal under GB CLP is required to assess whether classification is appropriate and will be explored by HSE in 2025.

In 2023 a decision was adopted with respect to the ongoing substance evaluation for paraffin waxes and hydrocarbon waxes, chloro (LCCPs), which was included on the RAP for 2022-2024 for evaluation in 2022. This decision requested information to clarify the identity of the substance before moving on to address the concern that LCCPs meet the UK REACH Annex 13 criteria for being bioaccumulative (B) / very bioaccumulative (vB) and toxic (T). In 2024, information was submitted by the registrants to clarify the identity of LCCPs; this is under assessment and a further decision will be issued to clarify these hazard concerns in 2025.
