Importing seed treated with a pesticide product
Seed treated with a plant protection product (PPP) may only be marketed and used if the PPP is authorised for that use. To make an application for a new seed treatment PPP refer to the Applicant Guide.
Northern Ireland (NI)
Seed treated with a PPP which has an existing authorisation for that use in at least one EU Member State may be imported into NI, marketed and used.
Great Britain (GB)
Seed treated with a PPP which has an existing authorisation for that use in at least one EU Member State may be imported into GB, marketed and used up to 30 June 2027. This is in accordance with The Plant Protection Products (Miscellaneous Amendments) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 (UK legislation website).
From 1 July 2027 onwards, only seed treated with a PPP which has an existing identical authorisation in GB for that same use may be imported, marketed and used in GB.
To ensure that a new PPP authorisation in GB is in place before 1 July 2027, please note our timescales for processing applications.
When applying for a seed treatment PPP authorisation you must address the specialised information requirements of the seed treatment risk assessment.
Labels and documents
The label and documents accompanying the treated seed must include:
- the name of the plant protection product with which the seed was treated
- the name(s) of the active substance(s) in that product
- any risk mitigation measures set out in the authorisation for that product where appropriate

The Plant Protection Products Regulations 2011 (UK legislation website)
Plant Protection Products Regulations 2011 10(1) states that a person must not place on the market or use seeds treated with plant protection products that are NOT authorised for use on such seeds in any EU Member State.
