Care and maintenance of clothing

  • Clothing should be issued on a personal basis
  • Each person should be provided with at least three sets of clothing
  • Each person should have their own locker
  • Protective clothing and other personal protective equipment should, for hygiene reasons, be kept in lockers separate from those used for keeping personal clothes and food
  • Molten metal protective clothing must be cleaned correctly.  You must follow the manufacturers or suppliers instructions as failure to use the correct method of cleaning may significantly reduce the degree of protection offered by the clothing
  • Worn or damaged clothing will not provide the expected protection against molten metal. It should not be used and should be replaced or professionally repaired as soon as possible
  • Wearers should check their protective clothing thoroughly before they use it to make sure it is not damaged
