Lead workers suspended from work due to excess blood-lead levels, 2022/23

In 2022/23

  • 4,733 (93%) of the workers under surveillance were male and 358 (7%) female.
  • Five young males (under 18 years old) were under medical surveillance.
  • The lead battery manufacture sector accounted for the highest number of males under medical surveillance during the three-year period 2020/21-2022/23.
  • Work in other lead processes accounted for the highest number of females under medical surveillance during the three-year period 2020/21-2022/23.
  • 28 male workers had a blood-lead level at or above 50µg/100ml recorded.
  • No female workers had a blood-lead at or above 25µg/100ml level recorded.
  • 13 lead workers were suspended from work, all were male.
