RR170 - Cognitive factors' influence on the expression and reporting of work-related stress
This report examines the extent to which individual differences, that is variation in factors such as personality and attitudes are responsible for the incidence of stress-related illness and reporting of stress-related problems through questionnaires and other monitoring processes. A meta-analysis on longitudinal studies of ill-health, work conditions and individual differences was first conducted, followed by an examination of representative databases of the UK population. The last part of the review looked at some of the ways in which individual differences might influence the experience and reporting of stress-related illness. Cognitive factors in the experience of unpleasant emotions might play a central role in both the development and reporting of stress-related illness.
