In order to discharge duties under CHIP you will need to obtain competent
advice. This could be provided by someone in your organisation who has the
necessary training and experience or a suitable external provider.
HSE (contact us) and Local Authority staff
have duties in relation to CHIP enforcement and will be able to advise on
specific legal questions.
The following, who are not endorsed by HSE, may be able to assist on some
aspects of CHIP. Please note we are not responsible for the accuracy or reliability
of any information provided.
- European Chemicals Bureau
The European Chemicals Bureau works for the European Commission on matters of classification and labelling of hazardous chemicals. The European Union's Technical Committee on Classification and Labelling involves national experts from each Member State, who consider, discuss and agree classifications for hazardous substances and the related labelling requirements. Once adopted, these harmonised classifications appear in Annex 1 of the Directive and are published in the UK through the HSC's Approved Supply List.
The agendas and some of the papers for the Technical Committee meetings can be freely accessed and viewable on the European Chemicals website
- The Chemical Hazards
Communication Society (CHCS) – a group of professionals engaged
in the business of hazard communication. CHCS provides training and mutual
assistance for employed professionals and consultants.
- Envirowise – which provides free consultancy on issues related to environmental
classification.
