European Week of Safety and Health 2007 – Activities

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE), in partnership with the EEF, launched the start of the UK’s European Week 2007 campaign at an event in London on 19th June 2007. The formal launch of the campaign signals the start of European Week 2007 activities in the UK. Speakers at the launch event included: The UK Minister for Safety and Health at Work, Lord McKenzie,  who gave  a key note speech; Hugh Robertson (TUC); Gary Booton (EEF) and Professor Cheryl Haslam, Professor of Health Psychology at Loughborough University.

Joint TUC/HSE training course for safety representatives

Lord McKenzie attended a joint TUC/HSE training course on risk assessment tools for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in London on 23 October. He sat in on two training sessions for safety representatives and took part in a question and answer session.

Training was given in assessing both manual handling risks – using the Manual Handling Assessment Charts (MAC) - and Upper Limb Disorder (ULD) – related risks. Involvement of safety representatives in the workplace is a key way to ensure the health and safety of all workers.

European Week 2007 - what you could do

You can arrange your own European Week 2007 activities throughout the year. For further ideas and information you can download a European Week Action Pack containing campaign materials produced by the European Agency, such as factsheets on MSDs, ULDs and hazards and risks associated with manual handling, and a poster on Euroweek 2007.

Alternatively, a limited number of Action Packs will be available for distribution and are subject to availability. You can request Action Packs by contacting: hsebooks@prolog.uk.com, quoting MISC767, with the following information:
